WHY BLESS RHYTHMS?
We believe that God has placed each of us where we are for a purpose. We say it this way “place is our intention”. God has placed you where you are to be His voice, His hands, and His feet in the everyday stuff and among the everyday relationships right around you, where you live, work, study, play and shop.
That can be tricky though right? How does grocery shopping, commuting, lunch breaks, bill paying, vacation going, work, sports, and all the other stuff of life change because of Jesus? We’ve found these five B.L.E.S.S. rhythms of life help us reorient those moments of life around Jesus and His mission.
BE IN PRAYER
Staying connected to the mission of God starts by staying connected to the God of the mission. One of the ways we accomplish that is by simply praying for our neighbors, our co-workers, and our classmates. Asking God to show us how He sees them and what He wants us to see and to know.
LISTEN
Jesus lived the daily rhythm of listening to the needs of people and the culture around Him, and then when He spoke He was often addressing the needs that He took time to observe and listen to. We have to slow down and listen, ask more questions, and become curious! Through this we show that care more about hearing their story than we do about telling our own.
EAT
Jesus' ministry here on the earth opens at a meal and closes at a meal! He valued sharing meals with others, in fact in the Gospel of Luke we see Jesus regularly eating or walking, either to a meal or from one. The table is a powerful way to develop friendships. Inviting someone to your table to share a meal communicates love and acceptance! As you engage friendships with people around you, invite them into your home or out with you and your friends to share a meal.
SERVE
Do something sacrificial for them. Go out of your way to serve them - buy them a gift, make them a meal. Do something out of the ordinary yet something that would be perceived by them as a blessing or kind act. In this way, you are sharing the love of Jesus with them as Jesus came and gave His one and only life for us. It is in the sacrificial nature of our giving that it is a blessing, not necessarily the gift or the action. But let it be genuine and authentic, not contrived or manipulative. Serve with a nothing beneath me mentality.
SHARE
Having taken the previous steps to build relational trust, prayerfully wait for the opportunity to share your faith. Our intent is not simply to do enough good works with the hope that they somehow figure out that we are Christ followers. We believe that to evangelize someone is to share a verbal explanation of the gospel with them. We don’t love people to convert them, we love them because we have been converted.
